A. Patrick Hannan, 80, of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 8, 2017. Visitation will be Thurs., January 12th at St. Peters Catholic Church, 701 E. Meyer Blvd, KCMO, from 11am-12pm. Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm. Interment following at Calvary Cemetery.
Pat was born in Kansas City, MO on St. Patricks Day in 1936, and how fitting for him because he loved all things Irish! Pat lived his entire life in Kansas City. He graduated from St. Peters Grade School, moving on to Rockhurst High School, Wentworth Military High School, and Wentworth College. Pat also attended the University of Missouri Columbia.
Pat patriotically served his country by joining the Army in 1957 and serving in Korea. After his time in the army, Pat wanted to continue supporting those who have served by donating to multiple veterans organizations throughout the years. Pat dedicated 45 years to Clarkson Construction Company and Superior Bowen Ashpalt, where he retired from in December of 2015. He was very well-known in the Kansas City community, specifically the Brookside area, where most would call him the "Mayor of Brookside." Pat was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, as well as St. Peters Catholic Church for 80 years.
Among his love of his Irish heritage, Pat was a historian of Notre Dame football. He and his tight-knit group of friends would make a trip to a Notre Dame football game about once a year. Pat attended over 35 of the Fighting Irishs football games.
Pat was a generous man, loyal friend, and loving husband. Sarah Harrigan stole his heart after only three weeks of dating. Pat popped the question on HIS 50th Birthday, and thought hed take a friends advice and make Sarah his wife. Shocked, Sarah took a week to give him an answer, but told him over brunch one morning that she would spend the rest of their days together. They were married on June 21, 1986 by Judge Vince Baker, who after pronouncing Pat and Sarah man and wife, hugged and kissed Sarah himself! Pat and Sarah shared a happy, loving 30 years of marriage together.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Hannan; sister, Shirley Williams; and a niece, Sally Schmidt. He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Hannan; stepchildren, Billy and Liza Harrigan; goddaughter, Michaela Wilson; niece, Maggie Chappell (Geoff); several great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; four-legged companion, Ava; and many dear friends.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Peters Catholic Church, 701 E. Meyer Blvd, KCMO 64131. Condolences may be expressed at www.muehlebachchapel.com.
