Barbara “Barb” Bergman passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Villa Saint Francis of Olathe, Kansas. Barb was born December 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri to Lewis and Catherine “Kay” Reams (Buckley).
Prior to getting married and starting a family Barb worked for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City, MO; however, once she and her husband, Bill, started their family she moved to Kansas (much to her father’s dismay) and became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She later returned to the paid workforce working for JCPenney Catalog for more than 20 years and eventually retiring from JCPenney. Barb was an avid volunteer and when her children were small, she volunteered taking people living at Good Samaritan nursing home to the communion service or Mass. She also volunteered at Birthright helping unwed mothers and delivering meals to the homebound with Meals on Wheels in the eighties, as well as volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Kitchen and working at funeral dinners at St. Paul’s Parish of Olathe, after retirement she volunteered with Catholic Charities of Johnson County in Olathe in the clothing closet and at the Christmas Bureau of Johnson County and briefly as a lector at Prince of Peace Parish of Olathe.
Barb was a loving mother, sister, wife, daughter, niece, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Kay, her husband William “Bill”, and several brothers in law. She is survived by her children: Amie Bergman of Gardner, KS, Shannon Vickery (Lance) of Wellsville, KS, Steven Bergman (Holly) of Olathe, KS, and Jon Bergman of Lenexa, KS. Her sister, Linda Johnson of Kansas City, MO and brother, Michael Reams (Sandy) of Kansas City, MO, and grandchildren: Jordan, Joey, Sean, Evelyn, Cassie, Sofia, Bryan, Katelyn, Connor, Peter, and Alexandra “Alex”.
Visitation and Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 2nd, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Memorials in Barb’s name can be made to Catholic Charities of Johnson County, 9806 W. 87th Street, OPKS 66212
