Barbara Josephine Breckenridge (née Lewis) July 21, 1942 – December 7, 2024

Barbara Josephine Breckenridge, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 82, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 21, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas to Jim and Emma Lewis, Barbara was a woman of deep faith, grace, kindness, and quiet strength who touched countless lives throughout her journey.

Barbara grew up in Wichita, where she graduated from Mount Carmel Academy. She married Robert Dale Breckenridge in 1974 and together they built a life together, filled with cherished memories. A devoted mother, Barbara had a special way of making her children feel seen and comforted. While she deeply loved her immediate and extended families, she also found simple pleasure in farmers markets, fresh strawberries, peaches, and tomatoes, a good card party playing canasta or pitch with her friends, and morning coffee with neighbors.

Her warmth extended beyond her family; Barbara volunteered with her parish as a CCD teacher, and she was a supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Her compassionate spirit, coupled with her quiet endurance and faithfulness, left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her children, Tara, Lew, Jim, and Ivan; her sister, Corinne; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Bob, and her siblings, Mary D., Jane, and J. Arch.

A rosary, visitation, and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri, on December 19th, 2024 beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon at the church will follow for those who would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Sisters Servants of Mary in Kansas City, Kansas.

Barbara’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
