Barbara J. Morrow

November 22, 1946 — July 25, 2023

Kansas City

Barbara J. Morrow (“Barbie” as she preferred), 76, formerly of Aledo, IL, passed away peacefully in the early morning on July 25, 2023, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Barbie was born November 22, 1946, in Rock Island, IL, to Harry “Zeke” Wayne and Barbara E. (Greer) Sawin.  She graduated from Aledo High School in 1964, attended Stewarts School of Hair Design in Davenport, IA and operated a lawn care service for almost 25 years. Working in lawn care all her life, she enjoyed maintaining the landscape around her home in Kansas City. She also took great pride in trying to grow perfect tomatoes like her mom.

She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and watched almost every game. Additionally, Barbie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball team fan. She was also a member of the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary.

Barbie enjoyed the outdoors, her favorite place being the Lake of the Ozarks. She loved spending time with family and friends there, being on a boat, and riding her jet ski at the crack of dawn. Her favorite thing to do each morning at the lake was ride her jet ski as fast as possible to Bagnell Dam

She declined a traditional funeral service and chose cremation.  Her son will privately spread her ashes at the Lake of the Ozarks near Bagnell Dam at a later date.

Barbie is survived by her son, Nick Morrow, of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Ann Etter of Aledo, IL; a brother: George Sawin of Aledo, IL; and nieces & nephews: Angela Etter, Jon Etter, Jim Sawin, and Ryann Sawin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zeke and Barbara Sawin, and her brother Jim Sawin.
