Bernard Dupont

Bernard P. Dupont, 88, passed away August 3, 2018. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Francis Regis Church, 8941 James A Reed Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138. Interment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Bernard P. Dupont, born on August 14, 1929 in Hamel, Minnesota, to parents Rose and David, resided for 46 years at 10509 Corrington Avenue, Kansas City, MO, and more recently at Villa St. Joseph Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kansas. Known to his friends as Bernie, he was a faithful member of St Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4387. He was an avid supporter of the rights of the retarded. Bernie was known for his green thumb, from fruit and vegetables in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, to red roses in Missouri. His career at BP Amoco, formerly Standard Oil, lasted over 35 years, beginning in Minneapolis, Minnesota through a job transfer to Kansas City in 1967. He retired in 1986 but kept in touch with his fellow Amoco retirees through MO-KAN annual dinners. Not satisfied in retirement, he first learned 10 new computer languages, and soon took a new job, and then later a second. Bernie had a real love for music, from homemade rubber band guitars in his youth, to a guitar and accordion as an adult. He taught his children their notes at an early age, and the family entertainment for many years included a weekly music session, with polka music, music from popular musicals, and folk songs. He had a brief avocation as an entertainer in an accordion band. He made his family a homemade sorry marbles game, and many evenings the family played canasta and 500 rummy. For their 40th wedding anniversary, he surprised his wife, Emaline, with a gift of a Mediterranean cruise, at a dinner playhouse with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his daughter in law, Patty Dupont, his wife Emaline, and his siblings, Emil, Viola, Henry, Adrian, and David. His surviving relatives include Yvonne, daughter; Charles, son; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
