Life Reflections
Blanche A. Mayberry, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, November 12, 1930. Blanche was very creative. She was accomplished in both the violin and piano. She received her secondary education from the Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. She graduated with a teaching degree. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She retired after 30 years in the teaching profession. She was also employed by Remington Arms (Lake City) Ammunition Plant. But, she returned to her first love, education. Her sister was a teacher as well. Which made it easier for her to get back to education. This included working at Dales Academy as a teacher and choir director. This position closed out her work life.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She lived for her children. Her siblings often teased her about the number of children she had. But, she always gave as good as she got. She told them, “At least I’ll have someone to take care of me when I’m old.” She even went so far as to tutor some of her grandchildren later on in life. Showing her love for her family. Blanche had great artistic abilities which she passed on to some of her children. She could freehand draw any number of things. Even portraits of people.
She was an avid traveler after her children grew older and left home. She traveled extensively all across the country and other parts of the world. Traveling became a surprising joy for her. Especially when she unexpectedly reconnected with one of her old friends from Odessa, Missouri during one of her trips. Mount Rushmore and Niagara Falls were her favorites vacation spots.
I’ll miss you my traveling companion!
