Carol Ann Gavin of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025. She was born on August 2, 1946 in Ryan, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Elissa Gavin. Carol grew up in Ryan and graduated from St. Patrick School. She moved to Kansas City after graduation.
Carol worked many jobs to put herself through college. Carol graduated from Penn Valley Community College and the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She began her career as an Event Coordinator at Kemper Arena and then transferred downtown to the Kansas City Convention Center. Carol retired there as Assistant Facilities Manager after twenty-eight years of employment with the City of Kansas City. Carol also worked at Halls Crown Center part-time for many years. This complemented Carol’s passions for shopping, fashion and interior design.
Carol loved her family and traveled back to Iowa for visits and holidays and her family enjoyed visiting her in Kansas City. Carol also loved to spend time with her friends. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her generous and loving attitude, her sense of humor, loyalty, and kindness. Carol was an animal lover and always had a cat or dog (or both) and never met a stray she didn’t try to help. What brought Carol the most joy was traveling. She traveled to Europe with her friend John several times a year. She also traveled extensively with her sister Suzanne, and niece Kathy during Kathy’s spring breaks.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Elissa Gavin. She is survived by her sisters, Roslyn (Casey) Glynn, Suzanne (Robert) Britt, and brother John (Charlotte) Gavin, 13 nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews and seven great great nieces and nephews, along with her many life-long friends.
All services will be held at St. Patrick Parish, Ryan, IA, on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:45am following with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial held at Calvary Cemetery, Ryan, IA, where Carol will be laid to rest next to her parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Community Hospice, or Wayside Waifs.
