Charles J. Bateman

Charles J. Bateman born June 29, 1939 died January 26, 2024 at Carmel Hills Nursing Facilities with Phoenix Hospice assisting.

Chuck was born at the old General Hospital to Charles & Ruby Bateman. When Chuck was younger, they moved around a bit. He lived in: Arizona, Amoret, MO, Adrien, MO and several other locations.

Chuck attended East High in KCMO and his future brother-in-law, John,  was his ROTC leader. He went to college for one semester and refused to go back. He served in the Army for about four years. 

When he was honorably discharged, he came home, worked at the post office and started dating Judy Jura. He proposed on bended knee and she turned him down. The eighth and final time, (2nd -8th were all off the cuff)  he asked “When will you marry me?” she replied: “June 26th.” So, they were married June 26, 1971. 

Chuck & Judy were married 52.5 years when he died. They lost two daughters and a miscarriage before they had their rainbow baby Heather. 

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Ruby Bateman, sister Arla Redd, Brothers-in-law Bryan Redd,  Joe Cartwright, father-in-law John Jura, Mother-in-law (Mom) Anna Mae Jura, daughters Pamela Bateman, Cynthia Bateman, Brother-in-laws: Roland Anderson, John Jura, Ray Jura, Jim Jura, Sister-in-laws Renee Anderson, Arlene Jura and niece Bobbi Hughes.

He is survived by his wife Judy Bateman and daughter Heather Bateman, both of the home; sister (Karen) Annie Cartwright of Georgia,  22 nieces & nephews, 43 great nieces & nephews,  35 great-great nieces & nephews and several cousins that are still alive and kickin!
