***DUE TO WEATHER, SERVICES FOR CHARLIE HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY, SAME TIME***Charles J. "Charlie" Curry, 95, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on December 8, 2016 at the VA Medical Center. A Visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Saturday, December 17th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., KCMO, with the Service starting at 2pm. The burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where Charlie will be honored with a military ceremony.
Charlie was born on May 12, 1921 in Frederick, OK. He was adopted by his loving parents, Mark M. Curry and Lillian E. (Baker) Curry. Charlie was a proud American, and served his country faithfully by enlisting not once, but twice into the Army. His first active service duty was as a Medical Assistant. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. During his second active duty, he served as a Pharmacist, and was honorably discharge with Staff Sergeant ranking. Charlie taught art at NE Junior High School for 27 years.
Charlie was a very active patriot, serving his country any way he could. He was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. Charlie was also a very spiritual man. He served as a Gideon in the Kansas City area for many years sharing the love of Jesus Christ with all he could.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lillian, and son, David. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie (Nonn) Curry; son, Jon Curry; daughter, Kathy Barnett and husband Steven; stepdaughters, Pamela Klenczar, Gale Kommer, Christina Kommer; and a grandson, William Laessig.
