Cindy Rae Gilmer

Cindy Rae Gilmer, passed away on August 4, 2024 at KU Medical Center. She was born on December 3, 1951, in Early IA, to her parents Ray and Judy (Ball) Nellis.

Cindy was a hard worker during her career as a manager for Montgomery Ward and Sprint. She had a creative spark, which was evident in the way she approached both her work and personal life.

In her free time, Cindy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored taking trips to Estes Park, CO, where she found solace in the beauty of nature. Her fondness for classic movies from the 40’s and 50’s showcased her appreciation for art and storytelling. Cindy’s passion for cooking was evident through her love for watching cooking shows, and her thirst for knowledge led her to enjoy listening to audio books during long car rides.

One of Cindy’s treasured pastimes was watching and feeding hummingbirds in her yard, a testament to her gentle and nurturing spirit. She found peace and tranquility in these little moments of connection with nature.

In addition to her human family, Cindy was a devoted companion to Winnie the Pug, who brought her endless companionship and joy.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Judy (Ball) Nellis.

She is remembered by her husband of over 40 years, Larry Gilmer; sister, Beth Goodvin; brother, Robert Nellis; sister-in-law, Kay Nellis; Winnie the Pug; numerous nieces & nephews; and many friends including Ed Coleman.

Cindy Gilmer will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and kindness. Her presence in the lives of her family and friends will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished.
