Czerna B. Johney

Czerna B. Johney passed away in Kansas City's Vitas Hospice Care unit after a long struggle with cancer on September 24, 2015. She was 90 years of age.At her request, no service will be held.Czerna is survived by her husband, Eugene A. Johney of Independence, Missouri and two living sons. Gary and wife Margaret Johney of Pasadena, Maryland along with grandson David Johney of Manassas, Virginia. Galen and wife Cheryl Johney of Mission Viejo, California and grandsons Eric Johney of Los Angeles, California and Alan and wife Brittany Johney of Las Vegas, Nevada with great-grandsons Wesley and Tyler Johney and granddaughter, Amanda Spence and her husband Eric of San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Johney is preceded in death by her youngest son, Glenn E. Johney. She has two surviving siblings, Catherine Freytag of Independence, Missouri and John Cruce of Knob Noster, Missouri.Czerna was born on December 30, 1924 in Henry Co. Mo. to James and Mary Cruce, a rural farming family. She attended and graduated from Ballard High School in 1943. She furthered her education in the area of bookkeeping. Having moved to Kansas City, Missouri Czerna worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses. After World War II, she met and married returning veteran Eugene A. Johney in 1948. She soon began a lifelong service to the the American Legion and was a charter member of Women's Auxiliary Post 332. She spent over 65 of years of service in various positions to contribute to the cause. As an officer she functioned as secretary and historian. Continuing with her strong work ethic, she continued employment as a bookkeeper while raising her three sons and taking care of her family. Czerna was active in their church, Messiah Lutheran of Independence, Missouri and the family would like to thank all of the staff and members for their prayers and assistance over her lifetime of membership. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as well as a wide variety of activities. Being accomplished as a seamstress, gardener and working with arts and crafts always kept her busy.The family would like to thank: Herb Ingham, cousin of Czerna; neighbor, Pam Hiegert; and Vitas Hospice Care for their help in so many ways.As Breast Cancer Awareness month approaches in October, the family would suggest donations to this organization in lieu of flowers.
