Daniel Martin Murray, 70, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2019, surrounded with love from his wife and two children.
Dan was born on September 29, 1948, in Lorain, Ohio, as the youngest of eight children, to his parents, Peter (County Cork, Ireland) and Beatrice (Coyne) Murray (County Mayo, Ireland). He married Mary Beth Kenny on June 26, 1971. She survives. He also is survived by his two children, Casey (Elizabeth), Kansas City, Mo., and Caroline Walsh (Matthew), Alexandria, Va., as well as five grandchildren, Ainsley, Bridget, and Clare Murray; and Maeve and Eamon Walsh. He also is survived by his brothers, Rev. Cornelius and Michael (Mimi), brother-in-law Charles Conrad, sisters-in-law Evelyn, Jane, and Gerrie, and dozens of dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Conrad, and brothers Peter, John, Thomas, and Jim (Mary).
Dan graduated from St. Marys High School in Lorain, Ohio, and St. Josephs College in Renssalaer, Ind. He worked in Chicago and Minneapolis before accepting a job offer in Kansas City, Mo., where he, Mary Beth, and six-month-old Casey moved in 1977. There, he and Mary Beth bought a house and had Caroline, and Dan, in 1986, started a job at Lockton Companies where he worked until his retirement in 2012.
While Dan loved his job and excelled at it, he enjoyed most his family timewatching Casey and Caroline grow up with his best friend, Mary Beth, and then later, his grandchildren. He made lifelong friends along the way in Kansas City, so close that they often spent Thanksgiving together and enjoyed many neighborhood block parties.
Ever the gentleman, Dan always gave up his seat and held doors. He never knew a stranger and loved a good storyespecially if you wanted to hear about the time he made a hole in one. His smile and laughter had a way of making you feel at ease, and because of this, he also never met anyone who didnt become his friend. Dans wit, his love of baseball, his delight in puns, and so much more will be remembered and shared by his loved ones forever.
