David was born in Kansas City, MO on March 23, 1950 to Eunice and David Joseph Lenox.
David attended Southwest High School where he met many lifelong friends. Upon graduating in 1968, at 18 years old, he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country. While in Vietnam, David distinguished himself with exceptional service in support of counterinsurgency operations and earned the Army Commendation Medal on April 1, 1970.
After Vietnam, David attended the University of Missouri where he received a Bachelors of Arts in Economics. While attending the University of Missouri, David met his future wife and mother of his two children, Judi Ann Muskopf.
David had a distinguished career of over 30 years at the Social Security Administration. He had various roles of increasing responsibility, retiring as a District Manager of a Field Office in 2006.
A proud Missouri Tiger supporter, David also loved all things Kansas City, especially the Chiefs and Royals.
