Donald A. Schmit, 90, passed away September 25, 2014. A scripture service will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday, September 29th at St. Elizabeth Church, 2 E 75th St, Kansas City, MO with visitation following until 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Kansas City Hospice or Catholic Community Hospice.
Don was born June 23, 1924 in Port Washington, WI to Nick M. and Celia Schmit. He graduated from St. Mary?s and Port Washington High School. Served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946, serving in the Philippine Islands and China. He attended Marquette University, Milwaukee. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Don worked for the IRS for over 30 years retiring as Chief in the Accounts Section in Milwaukee District Office as well as the Data Processing Center in Kansas City. He was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1973. He was a leader in the Charismatic Renewal in 1977, a member of the National Service Committee of the Renewal. His first assignment as a Deacon was to the Renewal of Prayer in the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese by Bishop Helmsing. Don traveled extensively in the 1970?s speaking to many Full Gospel Businessmen?s Chapters throughout the country and to many local prayer groups. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; daughter, Donna Walsh & husband Mark; sons, Randall Schmit & wife Bonnie, Terry Schmit & wife Mary and Daniel Schmit & wife Paula; grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Emily, Thomas, Nick, Katie, Angie and Bradley; great grandchildren, Shaelyn, Taryn, Alec, Sammy, Hallie, Abigail, Austin, Cody and Marjorie; a sister, Clara Schanen. Don was preceded in death by a son, David Schmit; a great granddaughter, Anna Bosch, and four brothers. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com.
