Donald Dexter Weir
Born: 12/25/1928
Passed: 08/31/2023
With a heavy heart, I inform you of our dearly beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather, brother, uncle, husband, and friend passing peacefully today (8/31/2023) at 2:20pm, surrounded by his son and daughters in his room at Northland Rehabilitation & Health Care, where he has lived for the past 5 years with debilitating Parkinson’s Disease. He lived a long and storied life to the age of 94 years.
Predeceased by his first wife Conchita Ros Weir, his eldest son Edward Dexter Weir, father Dexter Marston Weir, mother Hazel Weir, brother Jim Weir, brother Bill Weir, sister Lela Larson, brother-in-law Chuck Gurney, brother-in law Ralph Larson, sister-in-law Joanne Weir and son-in-law Jay Jackson.
Survived by his daughters and son, Barbara Rose Jackson, Robert Donald Weir, Judy Ann Saft, Ruth Marie Rizer, Mary Hazel Summers, daughter-in-law Madeline Cutolo Weir, son-in-law 'Doc' Summers, daughter-in-law Cynthia Lynn Weir, sister Rosemarie Gurney, brother Max Weir & wife Mary, his second wife Marguerite Weir, and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly.
A most kindhearted, loving, and devoted man, he was a farmer by nature, a loving husband and father at heart and easily cared for and became beloved friends with everyone he met. A relentlessly hard-working provider, nurturer, teacher, and mentor, he taught us through example to give more than we took, to leave better than we found and to care for all who came to our door.
He was the cheerleader of each of our dreams, offering encouragement and a guiding hand at every turn. One of the few men I know who was endlessly patient and selfless by example.
Don spent much of his working career with American Lithium Co. in San Antonio, Texas, and Trans World Airlines in Kansas City, MO. But he held many other full and part time jobs to support his family of six kids.
He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean war, earning the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Efficiency, Honor, Fidelity Medal, the Korean Medal from the South Korean government, and a Purple Heart for injuries he incurred in combat on the front lines.
His legacy will forever fill our hearts and pass on to his future generations.
Godspeed our dear father and friend, on your next journey. We will miss you dearly.
Until we meet again.
With our utmost love and respect,
Your Children and all who loved you.
