Doris Spencer Ward was born on her family's farm just north of Unionville, Missouri on January 28, 1926. She passed from this life April 4, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Doris grew up in Lemons and later Kirksville, Missouri, graduating from Kirksville High School in 1944. She met and married Jack Derral Ward and then moved to Kansas City, where they raised five children. Doris was active in Cub Scouts, Pack 148, and Little League baseball, cheering her children from the stands as Jack coached. Many happy memories were made with spontaneous family camping and fishing trips. Through it all, Doris was her children's greatest champion, supporting and nurturing them in whatever they wanted to do. She welcomed her grandchildren with open arms and continued her legacy of family nurturing and love. In later years Doris enjoyed bowling and taking numerous trips with friends and relatives.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her infant daughter, Jackie Sue; her mother and father, Ralph and Vada Spencer; and her sister Violet Spencer Wareham. She leaves to mourn her passing five children: Derral (Belinda), Sharron Hill (Danny), David (Carol), Jerry (Charmaine), and Terry (Diane); eleven grandchildren: Steve (Jaime), Teresa, Stephanie (Dustin), Kathy, Brian (Wendy), Jamie, Jacob, Johnathon (Halie), Christina (Eric), Jennifer, and Jackie; and eight great grandchildren: Maddie, Gideon, Andrew, Lydia, Ashlyn, Ella, Alexis and Keegan.
