Doris Thompson, 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away September 12, 2015. Doris was born on June 15, 1926 to Francis and Felicite Beckman. While living in St. Joseph, MO, she met Vernon J. Thompson and on May 20, 1950 they married in Carrollton, MO. Doris and Vernon moved to Denver, CO, Indianapolis, IN, and eventually Kansas City and Maryville, MO, where they raised their three sons. Doris attended Mount Saint Scholastica where she graduated Magna Cum Laude earning degrees in chemistry and biology. Doris retired from Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City where she served as a Laboratory Technician. Prior to that she worked in the same capacity at St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown Kansas City. Doris always took an interest in church activities. At Guardian Angel Parish, she served as Steward and was honored by the Bishop for that role. Her life was filled with church activities, card games, board games, crossword puzzles, traveling, her Catholic Faith, The Kansas City Royals, and her family.Doris is survived by her three sons; John Thompson of Kansas City, MO, Jeff Thompson of Beloit, WI, and David Thompson of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by her six grandchildren; Lindsay Thompson of Buckner, MO, Rachel (Emerson) Zentz of Bangor, WI, Stephanie Thompson of Janesville, WI, Evan Thompson of Prairie Village, KS, Erin Thompson of Prairie Village, Brian Thompson of Beloit, WI, and one great granddaughter; Jordyn Atagi of Buckner, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Jack and Robert Beckman, and one sister; Rosemary Beckman.Doris was generous with her love and friendship. She cherished her family and was happiest when surrounded by them. Doris taught us to love stronger, smile bigger, and see the beauty in every aspect of life. Her home was always full of energy, love, food, laughter, and an overflowing candy dish.Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19th at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Rd, KCMO 64111, with a Rosary and Prayer Service beginning at 9:30 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM. Burial following at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, KCMO 64138. Memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angels Parish.
