Dorothy (Steinbacher) Whited, 93, died July 12, 2022, at home. She was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Scipio, KS, to Lee Steinbacher and Lena (Mersman) Steinbacher. She graduated from Garnett (KS) H.S. in 1947. Dorothy moved to KCMO, where she worked for the IRS for 30 years. She and Gerald "Pete" Whited were married in 1949 at St. Vincents Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Thomas More and formerly St. Augustines parish.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Gerald in 1991, her parents, five sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include daughters Vicki Bridges (Marty), Kathy Whited, Ph.D. (Derek Holland), and Debra Garr (Rick); and sons Dan, Kevin, Tim, Joe (Tammy), Gerry (Annette), Phil, and Jeff (Kim). She also leaves a sister, Roberta Steinbacher, Ph.D., 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 am Tuesday, July 19, at St. Thomas More, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131, with interment at 2:30 pm in St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio. A rosary will be said at 6:30 pm Monday at St. Thomas More, with visitation following until 8:30 pm. The family suggests contributions to Birthright of Greater KC or to a charity of your choice.
