ANDREW "ANDY" LOUIS HUFFMAN Dr. Andrew "Andy" Louis Huffman, 28, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday June 23rd, 2015 after a valiant and courageous 15 month battle with stage four colon cancer. Andy was starting his residency training program to become an anesthesiologist in Wichita, KS when he was diagnosed. Andy enjoyed playing and watching sports, outdoor adventure, camping, backpacking, ultimate frisbee, biking, water sports, skiing and spending time with his friends watching the Royals, Chiefs and his beloved University of Notre Dame athletic teams. Andy was born December 13, 1986 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Saint Thomas More Catholic Elementary School, Rockhurst High School (2005), The University of Notre Dame (2009), and The Saint Louis University School of Medicine (2013). He was completing his anesthesiology residency at the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in Wichita KS. Andy earned his Eagle Scout Award and was a Tom Tom Beater in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say honor camping program. Andy lived and exemplified the Rockhurst ideals of "Men-for-others" and "For the greater Glory of God" with service in Boy Scouts, and on several medical mission trips. Andy touched many lives and will be remembered for his smile, adventurous and courageous spirit. He is survived by his parents Louann (Oberkrom) and Charles R Huffman, his brothers Dr. Joseph (wife Brittany) and Jacob. He is also survived by nephew, Landon and niece, Emory whom he dearly loved, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis and Anna Marie Oberkrom and Jesse Allen and Rosabeth Huffman. The Family would like to thank the Saint Thomas More community for all they have done during this journey and the staff of Kansas City Hospice, The University of Kansas Hospital and Cancer Center, MD Anderson, The Mayo Clinic, and the Wichita Center for Graduate Medical Education for their compassion, care and support. "Andys Army" will continue the battle to fight colon cancer in his honor. The rosary will be prayed at 4pm Friday, June 26th at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO followed by visitation until 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Rockhurst High School, St. Thomas More Church, Boy Scouts of America or a charity of the donors choice.
