Edward H. Goetz, age 95, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1928, where he lived until he and his wife Barbara relocated to Greenville, Delaware in 2020. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1945 and attended Kansas State University, majoring in agriculture. Ed married Barbara Dykes on June 14, 1952.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years. He is also survived by his daughter Carol Derman (Richard) and son Rick Goetz (Donna), and grandchildren Heather Pashman (Jason), Eric Pashman, Laura Goetz, and Heidi Pashman (Michael). He was predeceased in death by his bother Joseph F. Goetz and sister Mary Goetz Ryan, and his grandson, Geoffrey Goetz.
He owned and operated Country Club Cleaners on Main Street until 1979. After retiring from the cleaning business, he was able to focus on his passion for agriculture operating his two farms near Holden, Missouri. In 2007 after retiring from farming, he delivered Meals on Wheels, often to people younger than himself.
Ed earned his Private Pilot license at the early age of 16. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves until 1959 achieving the rank of master sergeant (MSgt). He was an avid reader throughout his life.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 21st, at 10:00 at St. Elizabeth Church at 2 East 75th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, preceded by the Rosary at 9:00 AM and visitation with the family to follow until 10:00 AM. Graveside service will immediately follow the Mass. The family requests donations be made to the Hospice Foundation of America or the Little Sisters of the Poor.
