Elaine Tooley

After a prolonged battle with cancer, Dorothy Elaine (Houston) Tooley, 67, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Villa St. Joseph nursing home in Overland Park, Kansas. She will be forever remembered and cherished as a caring and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Elaine was born on April 2, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents, Leroy P. Houston and Dorothy F. (Pope) Houston. She grew up in a loving family with one sister and three brothers.
She married classmate, Richard Rush, in 1966 and they were blessed with two beautiful boys, David and Todd. After Richards passing in 1970, she was blessed to find love again with Gary L. Tooley and they married on October 6, 1975. They were married for 38 lovely years from 1975 2013, when Gary passed away.
She worked at H&R Block and started as a receptionist on 44th and Main then transferred to the Loma Vista district office where she became a District Operations Supervisor from 1980 2012. After 32 years, she retired from H&R Block in 2012.
In her retirement she enjoyed card games, going to the casino, playing bingo, shopping from QVC & HSN, scrapbooking, watching Royals games, visiting with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren: Anthony, Alec, Elena and Connor.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy P. Houston and Dorothy F. (Pope) Houston; husbands Richard E. Rush and Gary L. Tooley; brother, Lynn Houston. She will be greatly missed by her children: David (Brenda) Rush, Todd (Angela) Rush; grandchildren: Elena, Connor, Anthony and Alec Rush. Elaines sister: Karen (Ron) Martin and brothers: Michael and Jim Houston, many nieces and nephews and best friend, Lenore Handlen.
The family will be receiving guests at the Visitation from 6:00-8:00 PM ~ Friday ~ November 18, 2016 at Muehlebach Funeral Home: 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64131. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. ~ Saturday ~ November 19, 2016 at Muehlebach Funeral Home: 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64131. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens; 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Kansas City Hospice, Villa St Joseph or Cancer Action KC.
The family would like to thank the staff and community of Villa St. Joseph for all of their loving care of Elaine these past few months, as well as Kansas City Hospice. May Elaine rest eternally in Gods loving arms.
