Ethel Joan Dixon

Ethel Joan Dixon, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, July 29,
2022. Details for a celebration of life are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests
memorial contributions to City Union Mission; 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, Missouri
64106.
Joan was born February 12, 1931, in Liberty, Missouri. She was the daughter of Joseph
and Ethel Belle Hughes. She spent her childhood in Missouri and then resided in Kansas until
her death. Joan worked outside of the home. She worked for Prudential Insurance after
graduating from business school. Joan then worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Anthony Scardino.
Her greatest work was as a wife and mother. Joan’s hobbies and interests included quilting,
knitting, and leading numerous women’s bible studies.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Hughes. Joan is
survived by her husband of 71 years, George Dixon, son, Roger Dixon, son, Morgan Dixon, and
his wife, Robin Dixon. She also leaves behind a grandson Scott Dixon and his wife, Mikayla
Dixon, and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Charlotte.
