Father Francis Schuele

Fr. Francis J. Schuele, 71, passed away March 6, 2015. A prayer service will

be held at 5:00 pm Monday, March 9th at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822

Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO followed by visitation until 7:00 pm. Mass of

Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday at St. Thomas More Parish. Interment

will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO at 1:30pm Tuesday. In lieu of

flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Family House, 912 E

31st St, Kansas City, MO 64109, Bishop Sullivan Center, 6435 E Truman Rd,

Kansas City, MO 64126 or St. Vincent DePaul Society, 3922 Troost Ave, Kansas

City, MO 64110. Fr. Francis was born October 10, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO, the first child of Frederick and Valeria Schuele. He attended St. James Grade School in St.

Joseph, MO, St. John?s Seminary High School, Conception Seminary College, and the

North American College and Gregorian University in Rome. After ordination, he received a Masters of Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. Fr. Francis was ordained by Pope Paul VI in Rome in 1968. He served at Holy Cross Parish, St. Augustine Parish, Coronation of Our Lady, St. Therese Little Flower, Christ the King, St. James Parish, St. Joseph, MO, St. Cyril and St. Thomas More Parish. In addition to

parish ministry, Fr. Francis directed the Newman Center at Drake University for

three years. He also taught at Bishop Hogan High School and was actively involved with the Newman Center at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The issues of social justice and human rights were dear to his heart and he loved the years he spent as director of the Office of Social Justice in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. His love for music, art, and beauty and his passion for justice and peace were made evident in his talks and activities in the diocese and in his simple gifts to family and friends. Fr. Francis was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his siblings, Frederick E. Schuele and wife Trish Coupe-Schuele, James G. Schuele, Fr. John C. Schuele, Mary K. Schuele and husband Lee Judge, and Therese M. Schuele and husband Leon Munday, along with several nieces and nephews.
