Frederick James Riegel, 84, passed away on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. Fred was born on February 7, 1940, in Linn, Missouri to Ferdinand and Frances Nilges Riegel. After graduating from High School in Linn, Fred moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1958 and began working for National Life Insurance which later became known as American General. He worked with this company until he retired in 2000. Fred met and married Priscilla Madrid and together, they celebrated 60 years last November 14th, 2024. Fred participated in the Boy Scouts as a leader and his Mic-O-Say name was “Keeper of Many Eagles”. This name came from his passion of collecting eagles as a hobby. He was also famous for his Party Mix that was a part of all holiday gatherings. Fred and Priscilla were a part of St. Catherine’s Catholic Parish for about 59 years.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Norbert and Arthur and his sister, Mary Ruth Deeken. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, and his children; Nancy Fitzsimmons of Kansas City, MO, Tracy Pogue (Charles) of Blue Mound, KS and Brian Riegel (Patrick McWilliams) of Lee’s Summit, MO. He leaves eight grandchildren; Kelly, Joseph, Ryan, Katherine, Hamilton, Garrett, Sophia, and Julia, six great grandchildren; Sabrina, Patrick, Gabrielle, Joe, Tara, and Cooper, four great great grandchildren; Harlin, Ronin, Hayes and Highly. He is also survived by many friends of his children and grandchildren that thought of him as a second father or grandfather.
The funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 17th at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Presentation, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Kansas City.
