Geraldine “Gerrie” Baker Swords, 91, died peacefully Saturday, October 29th surrounded by family. Known for her artistic flair, passion for cooking and hosting festive gatherings Gerrie put her talents to use for many community organizations and fundraisers such as The Lyric Opera Ball, Symphony Ball, Epilepsy Foundation, the Westport Ballet Ball and was a supporter of the American Royal. She will be remembered for leaving a legacy of generosity and hospitality.
Gerrie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Maurice Jerome “Jerry” Swords. She and Jerry were long-time members of the Saddle & Sirloin Club, Carriage Club and Kansas City Club. They were members of Visitation Catholic Church and St. Agnes Parish.
She is survived by her five children. Jim Swords and wife Kris of Beverly, MA, Margaret Swords of Leawood, KS, Martha Swords Birkins and husband Bill of St. Petersburg, FL, Melissa Swords Boyer and husband Bryan of Litchfield, CT, and Michael Swords of Prairie Village, KS. She also has two grandsons Cameron Boyer of Charlotte, NC, and Conner Boyer, of Indianapolis, IN.
A private Christian burial is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to the Parkinson Voice Project.
