In Memoriam, Gregory Paul Skidmore
October 7, 1950 – September 1, 2023
Gregory Paul Skidmore of Kansas City, Missouri entered into rest on September 1, 2023 after a long struggle with complications of diabetes. Born in suburban Chicago, Illinois, Greg moved to South Kansas City in 1964 with his parents and siblings. He attended Rockhurst High School, Rockhurst College, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating with degrees in Philosophy and English Literature. Greg found his calling as a professional chef, managing the kitchens of several fine dining establishments in the Kansas City area, eventually retiring for health concerns. In his later years, he served as an income tax preparer, often for the elderly and those of lesser means in the South Kansas City area.
Greg was an avid fisherman and spent many days at Pomme De Terre pursuing large mouth bass and the elusive Muskellunge. Greg was a lover of cinema and literature and a student of political science and economics. He was a prolific amateur author and online blogger. An avid baseball fan and lifelong faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs, Greg repainted his house with the Cubs’ logo and colors to celebrate their 2016 World Series Championship. He also cheered for his new hometown heroes, the KC Royals and Chiefs, from the very start.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Williams Skidmore and Elizabeth Maiers Skidmore, and younger brother Hugh Michael Skidmore. He is survived by his siblings: Steven Hugh Skidmore of Iowa; Lawrence John Skidmore of Kansas City; Kathleen Marie Pierce of Lee’s Summit; Maureen Elizabeth Sutherlin of Kansas City; Paul William Skidmore of Kansas City; Joan Mary Duckworth of Lee’s Summit; and Peter James Skidmore of Augusta, Georgia.
Greg’s last days were spent in peace and dignity with the assistance of the staff of Ignite Rehab and Nursing Center as well as Ascend Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to the American Diabetic Association or a local hospice organization of your choice.
