Harry B. Seever, Jr., 91, passed away July 18, 2015, at St. Lukes Hospice House, where he has been since July 15th, which was his birthday. Family and friends stopped by to visit and wish him a happy birthday. A memorial service will be held at the Meierhoffer Funeral Home at 5005 Frederick Ave. in St. Joseph, MO on Wednesday , July 22, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, which is next door to the chapel. If you wish to make a memorial contribution, the family requests donations to either the St. Lukes Hospice Care or to cancer research.
Harry was born on July 15, 1924, in Linkville, MO. Harry was the son of Harry B. Seever, Sr. and Maggie Chestnut Seever of St. Joseph and was raised and lived in St. Joseph most of his life. Harry met his wife, Rose Mary Kasselhute after high school and was married Jan. 2, 1943. Harry and Rosie have two children, Barbara Joy Jinske and Harry Gregg Seever. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this past Jan. At the time they were married, Harry worked for the Burlington Railroad where he worked for many years before being employed with the Union Pacific since Burlington left St. Joseph. In Feb. of 1943, he was inducted into the Navy and his rank was Yeoman Third Class. He served his country until he was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946. He joined the Air National Guard during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in October 1953. Harry retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1984, after 27 years of service. Harry enjoyed fishing and billiards. He also enjoyed working on projects and could fix most anything. He built the last house where they lived in St. Joseph for around 23 years before he retired. Harry was also the general contractor for the house where they have resided at the Lake of the Ozarks for almost 30 years.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruby Lamansky and Melva Jean Stout, and one brother, James Seever. He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary and their two children, Barbara Joy and her husband, Bill Jinske, and their son, Gregg Seever. They have four grandchildren, two sets of twins, Nannette Sloan and her husband, Chris; Suzette Montoya, Robin Kelly and Robert Mueller. They also have seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandsons, and nieces and nephews.
The family thanks St. Lukes Hospital and St. Lukes Hospice House for the loving and wonderful care they gave Harry at the end of his life. His family is very grateful that he did not suffer.
