Helen Kathleen Fagan

Helen Kathleen 99, of Leawood KS passed away September 17, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  Visitation for Helen Kathleen will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday September 27^th, 2023 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS with the Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:30a.m.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.

Helen was born March 4, 1924 in Kansas City, MO to James Hubert Grimes and Helen Catherine Fitzgerald Grimes.  She graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy High School and the University of Missouri where she received a Bachelor of Journalism degree.  She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and Theta Sigma Phi honorary journalism fraternity.  She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Fagan in 1948 and enjoyed 67 years of marriage until Joe’s death in 2015. 

She worked 16 years as a Real Estate Agent.  She gave much of her time volunteering for the American Heart Association, was President of the Rockhurst High School Mothers’ Club, Chairman of the Cub Scout Den Mothers, and active in the P.T.A.  She and Joe along with many very close friends were founding members of the Catholic Charities Snow Ball – the largest fundraising event for Catholic Charities to this day.

The greatest joy in her life was her family.  For many years she loved celebrating holidays and special occasions in her home.  Her life was enriched with many friends with whom she and Joe traveled and shared wonderful times. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf at Indian Hills Country Club for 55 years. 

Helen Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, an infant son -James Fagan, son - Michael Fagan and grandson – Brian Fagan.  She is survived by her sons Joseph and Daniel Fagan, daughter, Connie Reilly (Patrick), 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
