Hugh was born on January 15, 1925 in Kansas City to Patrick and Marie Carr. He attended Rockhurst High School and College and subsequently entered the Navys V12 program. In the program he attended CMSU and USC and graduated with degrees in Naval Science and Mechanical Engineering. Hugh was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. His career included ET Archer Engineering, aircraft engine design at Westinghouse, Director of the Kansas City Water Department, and, in 1962, he purchased The Judy Company, Inc. where he retired in 1990.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maryanne Carr. Survivors include his wife of 67 years Marilyn Carr; children Katherine Carr, Susan Dowell, Marianne Carr and husband Steve Ashie, Patrick Carr, William Carr and daughter in law Jackie Carr and son in law Williams Butts, 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and sister Rita Precopio.
From Grandchildren: Grandpa Hugh was an amazing man, but you'd never know it because he was never one to seek the limelight. He was a WWII vet, an amazing engineer and business man, and a man who was always involved in charity and received various awardsthroughout his life. He raised 5 amazing kids who have had a slew of grandkids. Now we have our own kids who will carry on his legacy: an independent man who was driving himself and doing his own laundry up until last week, pretty amazing for a man of 90. Grandpa, you'll be sorely missed but never forgotten. Tonight, before bed, grandma kissed his picture and said, "Good night darling." Little Fritz agreed, and so do I. Goodnight grandpa, I know you'll be watching over us all.
