James Francis Farnen, 86, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2016.
Jim was born on February 11, 1930 to Frank J. and Mary Farnen in Kansas City, MO. He attended Southwest High School where he met a lovely redhead named Louise Changnon. They quickly became an item, neither realizing that their journey together would span more than 70 years.
Jim graduated from KS State Universitys Milling School in 1951. He then joined the Coast Guard serving until 1953. Following separation from military service, Jim returned to Kansas City with his wife and oldest daughter to join into business with his father and brother, brokering grain at the K.C. Board of Trade until 1992. Jim also loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks, and the company of the good friends he made on Lake Road 7-13.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Louise; sister, Lucy Wade; brother, Bill; and son-in-law, Lonny Kerman. He is survived by his sister, Mary Kay Riley; six children, Paula Kerman, Dr. John Farnen (Judy), Jim Farnen (Joan), Dr. Mary Counts (Vic), Laurie McCray (Joe) and Kathy Talbot (Greg); as well as many grand and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-2:30pm at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, KCMO on Sunday, June 5th. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Monday, June 6th followed by a private burial.
