James Patrick Latenser

February 22, 1956 — February 9, 2017

James Patrick Latenser, 60, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away February 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 22, 1956, Jim was the fifth of 13 children and learned to hold his own in the boisterous Latenser family. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary parochial school, graduating from St. Therese Little Flower grade school and Bishop Hogan High School. He enlisted in the Navy and served five years of active duty in multiple assignments aboard ship and on shore. After his discharge, he attended the University of Missouri and graduated from UMKC with a business and computer science degree.
One of Jims sisters introduced him to Mona Sizemore, the love of his life. They were married July 23, 1983 at St. Peters Church in Kansas City, MO and forged an enduring spirit of family with their four wonderful children Katie, Drew, Jaime, and Meredith.
Early on, Jim learned to work with his hands under the guidance of his Uncle Jim and Grandpa Ray at Raymond Marsee & Son Foundation Repair. In addition to his Naval electrical training, Jim further expanded his inherent skills in plumbing, welding, and carpentry. He worked for Burroughs Corporation, KCP&L and, for the past 19 years, at American Century Investments as a Systems Analyst.
Ever the true craftsman, Jim applied his many talents upgrading each house he and Mona called home. The combination of Jims remarkable remodeling skills and Monas decorating expertise created warm, loving homes for their family. Even with his own full plate of to-dos, he was the first to jump in to help family and friends with whatever project popped up.
Jim enjoyed spending time at the Latensers Lake of the Ozarks cabin with family and friends, and at the biennial South Carolina reunions with the Sizemores.
In addition to his devoted wife Mona, Jim is survived by his children Katie, Drew, Jaime, and Meredith, and his siblings Marcy Nelson (Jim), Mary Beth Schmidt, John (Mary Elizabeth), Kathleen Glynn (Terence), Barbara Yoksh (Larry), Sharon Madrigal (Mike), Laura Walter (Tom), Janet Sommerhauser (Joe), Judy Latenser, Jeannie Latenser (Tim Stumpff), Amy Latenser, and Meg Nicely (Ben).
Preceding him in death are his parents, Barbara and John Latenser, and niece and goddaughter, Jessica Anne Fox.
We will deeply miss Jims quiet, steady and thoughtful personality, as well as his understated and clever sense of humor. He leaves a legacy of deep commitment to, and love of, family.
A prayer service and rosary will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday February 12, 2017 at St. Peters Catholic Church 701 E Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64131 followed by a visitation with the family until 3:30pm. The funeral Mass will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charity Transplant Operating Fund in Memory of Jessica A. Fox, in care of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Mona and the family wish to thank the dedicated and caring staff at University of Kansas Health System who have supported them over the past few years.
Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com.
