Joanne Bernice Murray Nestel "Jomom", 78, peacefully passed away on September 7, 2014 surrounded by those she loved. She was born on October 6th, 1935 to Edmond and Josephine (Grebowiec) Murray. Joanne grew up in Kansas City, across the street from Manchester School and could be found running around the playground with her friend Carmella. CYO dances were one of Joanne's favorite activities. It was a good thing they were, because that is where she met her husband Bob. Bob and Joanne were married at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church on February 2, 1963. She travelled with her husband to exciting locations around the world including her memorable trip to Fatima in Portugal.
Joanne loved to be the "mom" to Mark, Mary, Michelle and Melissa, and loved being the "Jomom" to all her children's friends. In between being a Brownie leader, best brisket and chili maker, ghost story teller, league bowler, BINGO player, seller of ne jewelry, animal lover, and coolest mom on the block to all the Christ the King School kids, Joanne was devoted to her family. She knew how to make a house a home, and how to value tradition. Her favorite tradition was going to Vacation Village in Okoboji, Iowa with her family every summer. She was blessed with one daughter-in-law, Vikki, and two son-in-laws, Chris and Je. She was also blessed to have her aunt Wanda, whom she loved deeply like a mother. Joanne's favorite things besides a Coke (with no ice!) and a good hamburger, were her grandchildren: Colin, Carrigan, Bo and Katie. Her grandchildren brought her a fountain of youth, many fun memories, and a heart overowing with unconditional, endless love. Joanne was passionate in her Catholic faith, cherishing the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary as she prayed the rosary daily. Everyone knew if you needed prayers, to call Joanne. Joanne leaves behind many loving family members, friends, and her cat Happy and dog Swarley. She will watch over her loved ones from up above and continue to pray for them.
