John Andrew Foster

John Andrew Foster, 34 years old, beloved son, brother, and grandson, passed away on April 3, 2024. Born on September 29, 1989, he was confirmed in his faith at Leawood United Methodist Church. John will always be remembered and cherished. He loved to ski and went to Monarch Ski Resort in Colorado every spring break with his family where he learned to ski black diamond slopes with skill and joy.  He loved summer trips to Topsail Island, North Carolina and backpacking with his father and brother in California and Colorado.  John also loved to scuba dive which he learned as a Boy Scout with Troop 282, Leawood United Methodist Church.  John was a Life Scout in Troop 282 and a Hard Way Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say Honor Society at H. Roe Bartle Boy Scout summer camp.  Camp at Bartle was something he looked forward to each year. John attended Shawnee Mission East High School and was a member of the Junior Naval ROTC. He started and ran a small business, Perfectionist Construction and took his work seriously. John is survived by his mother, Jeanne F. Melhinch (married to Charles E. Melhinch), father, Robin V.W. Foster (married to Barbara L. Foster), brother, Michael T. Foster, sister, Emily J. Black (married to Chase A. Black), grandparents, Patricia F. McCarty and Albert A. de Zutter, aunts Catherine R. Foster, Margaret M. McGonigle (married to Mark T. McGonigle), and Mary P. Barron, uncle, Thomas J. de Zutter, and nephew, Brooks C. Black.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Josephine V.W. Foster and A. Durwood Foster. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, at 4:00 PM, at Leawood United Methodist Church, 2915 West 95th Street, Leawood, Kansas, with a reception following.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Leawood United Methodist Church or to Children’s Mercy Hospital (to support its children’s mental health initiative).
