John T. Hill

John T. Hill, 74, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 16, 2023. John requested cremation and burial in the family plot in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the charity of your choice in John’s name are suggested.

As a youngster, he was a proud Boy Scout and attended Christ the King Grade School. John graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1967, where he was a prolific basketball player and one of the best in the Kansas City area. He attended Missouri University at Columbia for a short time on a basketball scholarship. John finished his college basketball career at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in 1971. He was a member of Phi Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was known as Ja-Ta and Trapper John. John enjoyed living in Fort Collins, Colorado for several years. In 1992 John was selected as a member of the Rockhurst High School All-Time Basketball Team.

John loved KU basketball (a season ticketholder for many years), Chiefs football and Royals baseball. John enjoyed being independent and spending time with his friends. John also was passionate about local politics and civic issues and actively engaged in promoting his point of view on many issues.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hill and his sister Carol. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn of Leawood, Kansas.

John was fiercely independent with a subtle sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his friends.

John will be mentioned at Mass at St. Thomas More on Sunday, July 2. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Walsh’s Corner Cocktails, 304 W. 85th St. Kansas City, MO 64114, from 2:00-5:00p.m.
