John Patrick Connelly

August 2, 1970 — November 14, 2021

John Patrick Connelly, 51, passed away November 14, 2021. John was born August 2, 1970 in Kansas City, MO to John M. and Patricia G. Connelly. He was the 4th of 10 Children, and the oldest boy. Having 8 sisters, he took the responsibility of being the protector very seriously. John was wildly generous. He and his brother, Steve, bought the first family VCR and he loved to take his younger 2 sisters to the store to pick out toys. Being the true Irishman that John professed, he was as generous with his story telling as he was with his gift giving. His nieces and nephews have been entertained by his incredible and flamboyant tales throughout their childhoods. The family expects to hear "Do you remember when Uncle John" for years to come. John enjoyed a good game as much as a good story. He spent many family hours in games of Trivia Pursuit, basketball, golf and watching his adored Chiefs who finally won a Super Bowl for him. He sported Celtic tattoos and Chiefs gear with great pride. The Chiefs would have been his ultimate heroes except his father had earned that title many years before. Named after the two people he admired most, John Patrick bore the names of his parents with pride and strove his whole life to represent their names well.
John graduated from Rockhurst High School and took classes for his culinary degree from Johnson County Community College. One of Johns greatest attributes was his work ethic. He was a diligent, dedicated worker, often working long hours to make sure the job was completed to his satisfaction. John started working in the restaurant business as a teenager. Being a type 1 diabetic from the age of 4, his desire to create healthy, tasty food for people to enjoy developed from understanding the importance of food and his early experience in the restaurant. Johns choice of being a chef took him many different places including 4 different states. He worked at restaurants, such as Antons and Extra Virgin, catering companies, event venues, like Figilio towers on the plaza, and most recently developing the menu for Tiger Hotel in Columbia, MO. Johns work brought him in contact with many different people, but the most important people in his life were his children. The two pillars in his life were family and his Catholic faith, both of these sustained him in the end.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia G. Moylan Connelly and his grandparents. He is survived by his father, John M. Connelly; children, Ashle Olivas (Emilio), Maddie, Faith, Halle, and Aidan Connelly; siblings, Stasi (Joe) Ventura, Jodi (Monte) Ellis, Kimberly (Corrie) Holland, Stephen (Jen) Connelly, Erin (John) Rodriguez, Sandi (James) Moy, Kelly (Michael) Sullivan, Elizabeth (John) McLenon, Ashleigh (James) Palmer; many nieces, nephews and three grand-nieces and nephews.
The rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm Friday, November 19th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO followed by visitation until 7:30pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, 3934 Washington, Kansas City, MO. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
