It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of John H. Schwantes, age 48 of Las Vegas, NV. John died suddenly from natural causes on February 12, 2024. John was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, father and good friend to many. He was born in Rockford, IL and was raised and attended school in Kansas City, MO at St. Thomas More grade school and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He attended and graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a member and past president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. John maintained a love of sports throughout his life and was an avid tennis player and golfer and was quick to join any athletic team, especially if he was told that it was something that would be difficult. John loved a challenge and enjoyed competition. He remained a loyal Kansas City Royals fan and Missouri Tigers fan through thick and thin and enjoyed many moments with friends and family celebrating wins and analyzing losses. John enjoyed nice wine and a good meal especially when accompanied by others who were natural storytellers as he was. In his career, John successfully worked in sales for numerous companies in the Western U.S. He was a natural at both explaining complex systems in simple terms to customers, and gaining the genuine trust and admiration of colleagues he worked with in a variety of roles through the years.

John is survived by his father, Howard; mother, Sharon; sister, Carrie; brother, James; and son Levi. John was at his best and most proud as a father to Levi, born in 2022. Levi brought out the best in John and John was great for Levi. They laughed together, played ball, read books, enjoyed good meals (John’s pancake recipe was Levi’s favorite), watched Mizzou games, and were best buddies. John will be missed by those who were privileged to know and love him.

Services will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to be held in trust for the education of John’s son, Levi. Donations can be made via Venmo to @Howard-Schwantes
