John T. Phelan

John T. Phelan, 85, passed away January 18, 2017. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, Wednesday, January 25th followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at Redemptorist Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Compassus, 1602 N Main Ave, Mountain Grove, MO 65711.
John was born October 22, 1931 to James and Bernetta Phelan. He attended grade school and graduated high school from Redemptorist Catholic School. Growing up, he was a natural athlete and continued his passion for athletics by becoming an avid golfer and Notre Dame fan. He served in the Army during the Korean War and returned home and worked as a superintendent for Continental Grain until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Dolores Phelan, a brother, Joseph Phelan, and a sister, Bernetta Stack. He is survived by his children, Julia Harper, James Phelan (Lisa), and Joanna Phelan, grandchildren, Alyce Phelan, Tyler Phelan (Samantha), and Brooke Phelan, a great grandson, Cael Phelan, his nieces and nephews, Mary Clare Murphy (Pat), Kathleen Sessler (Dennis), Travis Hiles (Amy), and Ashley Beck (Wally), as well great nieces and newphews, Michael, Kathleen, Piper, Matt, Dan, Chris, Alexis, Connor, Henry, Daniel, Rebecca, Will, Jack, and Eleanor.
