December 23, 1938 — July 31, 2015

Joseph D. Morris, 76, of Kansas City, MO, passed away July 31, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer.Joe was born in Kansas City on December 23, 1938, to Joseph D. Morris, Sr. and Henrietta Bellante. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for four years as a medical corpsman, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Joe's legacy of service to others continued when he joined the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department in 1960. He retired in 1998, having achieved the rank of Battalion Chief. Never one to be idle, Joe continued to work long after his retirement, undertaking various construction and remodeling projects for family and friends. He especially enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Coleman, and brothers, Ben Jansen and Arthur Morris. He is survived by his wife, Diane Morris; sons, Greg, Jeff and Brian Morris; daughter, Laura (Mike) Farrell; sister, Hazel Pierce; and numerous grandchildren. Joe's large extended family, especially Sheridan, will miss his wisdom, encouragement and generous spirit.Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, MO, followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City MO, 64114, kchospice.org.
