Joseph (Joe) Patrick Effertz Sr. (85) of Kansas City, MO passed away February 15, the day of his mother’s and brother’s birthday, surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 AM  with the Rosary at 11:00 AM on Friday February 23, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO.  The Mass will follow the Rosary at 11:30 AM.

Joe was born March 15, 1938, in Belton, MO and grew up in South Kansas City. Attended St. Catherine’s Grade and Middle School, then attended Hogan High School. Joe married Katie (Quirk) in 1957 and together they were blessed with four children and shared 30 years together. In 1989 Joe married Kathi Haggerty and they were married for 29 years until she preceded him in death in 2018.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Marie Effertz, his brothers Edmund J., Thomas, Micheal “Mickey”, Sisters, Rose Marie Byrne, Rita Bodine, Niece Mary Therese Ismert, Nephews Larry Byrne, Brian Effertz, Tommy Effertz, Bernie Effertz and his wife Kathi (Haggerty) Effertz. He is survived by his four children Joseph P. Effertz Jr. (Elizabeth), Jeannie Purdy (Stuart), Stephen Effertz, Susie Effertz-Elbrader (Cody Buhrmeister), four step children Mike (Marilyn) Haggerty, Bridget Haggerty, Johnny Haggerty, Matt (Mary) Haggerty, 13 grandchildren, Preston Purdy (Kristina), Lexi Elbrader, Maclaine Purdy, Jake Elbrader, Wes Purdy, Clayton Effertz, Katie Buhrmeister, Grace Elbrader, Luke Elbrader, Logan Elbrader, Cole Effertz, Charlie Buhrmeister, Chase Effertz, 9 Step grandchildren, Whitney Haggerty, Mason Haggerty, Taylor Haggerty, Brianna Stern (Michael), Maddy Tully (Kevin), Max Cavaliere, Jackson Haggerty, Bella Haggerty, and Olivia Haggerty. One step great grandchild Lola Stern.  He is also survived by his brothers and a sister, John and Jim Effertz and Monica Effertz Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to make the request for donations to be made to St. Thomas More Parish, at the address above.
