A memorial service for Joe will be held Monday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m., at the Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost, followed by entombment at Forest Hills Cemetery. Joe was born June 26, 1927. A true native son of Kansas City, Joe was a descendant of the Birmingham family that established a sand and building equipment business on the north bank of the Missouri River and for whom the township of Birmingham, Missouri, is named. Joseph attended St. Peters and Bryant elementary schools and was a graduate of the Southwest High School Class of 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduations and, following basic training in Chicago and Yeomens school in San Diego, he was stationed in the Pentagon. Following his military service, he returned to Kansas City and enrolled in Metropolitan Junior College and then in the University of Kansas Citys (now UMKC) School of Law. After graduating from Law School in 1950 Joe began his legal practice under the tutelage Thomas Deacy, Sr., whom Joe regarded as one of the best trial lawyers in Western Missouri.
