Joseph "Joe" Dyche, a cherished husband, father, and friend, departed this life on February 10, 2025, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, dedication, and the warmth of family ties. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 14, 1932, Joe was a beacon of light in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Although he was a man of few words, when Joe spoke, people listened.
Joe's early life was shaped by his parents, Thomas and Martha, who embarked on the entrepreneurial journey of establishing Broadway Hardware when they were just teenagers. The store blossomed into an enduring family enterprise, fostering a spirit of togetherness that would resonate throughout the generations. Joe continued the family legacy by nurturing the business, which he managed for nearly 50 years until closing in 1994. Joe’s commitment to family and the Kansas City community transformed Broadway Hardware into a beloved institution in the Westport and Brookside area, a testament to the Dyche Family’s hard work and close-knit family dynamics.
Educated in the Jesuit tradition, Joe graduated from Rockhurst High School and pursued further studies, earning a Bachelor's of Arts in Business Management from Rockhurst University. Joe was known for his kindness and gentle nature, which endeared him to all who crossed his path. His familial roles defined his life — he exemplified love and involvement, nurturing relationships with a depth that inspired all around him. He and Dolores were strong in their Catholic faith; They were known as long-time parishioners of St. Thomas More Parish, where many of their life-events were celebrated with their church family. The St. Thomas More Knights of Columbus Council # 14270 was helped founded by Joe too, an organization he was most proud of! Joe's kindness and selflessness continued, as he was known for helping drive fellow parishioners to church as well as doctor appointments.
Joe and Dolores shared a remarkable journey together--being married for 73 beautiful years--first blossoming from their high school days until the end of his life. Their lasting partnership is a testament to a love that exemplified dedication and companionship, serving as an inspiring model for their children and grandchildren. Together, they thrived, raising four daughters: Anne (Mike) Herbert, Mary (Rudy) Cassol, Martha (Paul) Vogel, and Joan (Ervin) Neff, alongside their son, Tom (Sheri) Dyche. Each member of his family received Joe's unwavering support and love, which he generously shared at every opportunity. Joe is dearly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, along with many beloved family and friends.
A Visitation will take place at 10am on February 17, 2025, at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will occur at Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery at 12:30pm, where Joe will be laid to rest. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.MuehlebachChapel.com.
