Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Parks

Kathy Parks, 72, passed away on July 15, 2023, after a short, courageous battle with brain cancer. Kathy was born December 29, 1950, to Charles and Edna (Harness) Schaefer in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the first born of six children. She graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in St. Louis and received her Associate Degree from Longview Community College. Kathy married John Parks in 1970. Soon after, John was deployed to Germany, where they lived for 19 Months. After living in Texas, Washington, Germany and Rolla, Missouri, Kathy and John settled in Kansas City in 1977. Kathy and John raised three children: Derek, Jason, and Amber.

Kathy worked at various places during her career. She met John while working at Famous & Barr Department Store in St. Louis. She also worked at General American Insurance, USAA Insurance, One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaners, Metropolitan Community College, Mr. Lewis Esquire, Hickman Mills School District and was an Avon Representative.

Kathy was a long-time member of St. Matthew’s and St. Catherine of Sienna’s Catholic Churches. She was an active member of St. Catherine’s rosary group.

Kathy is survived by her husband John of 53 years; children Derek Parks (Amanda), Jason Parks (Emily) and Amber Hynds (Aaron); her beloved grandchildren Trent Vaughn-Parks, Olivia Parks, Carson Parks, Lila Hynds, Violet Parks and Teddy Parks; her sisters Joan Matt and Donna Dodd (Charlie) and brother Dan Schaefer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Eileen Hise and brother Charles Schaefer. Kathy was always willing to lend a helping hand to her family and friends. She will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice House or the American Cancer Society.
