Larry Knickerbocker

Larry Knickerbocker, age 64, passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House on Monday, September 21st 2015 after he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Leslie and Grace (Patrick) Knickerbocker on October 28th, 1950. He spent his childhood working on the family farm with his father. He graduated from Lafayette High School and went on to earn his Associates degree in Electronics. Larry was a member of the United States Navy and served during Vietnam. After his service in the Navy, he moved to Kansas City and worked as an electronic technician for the next 20 years. Then in 1990, he decided to start his own business and started working in lawn and landscaping. He operated that business with his children and other kids in the neighborhood. He loved being able to be with his children and taught all his helpers what a hard days work looked like. He went back to electronics in 2000 and worked for Canon until his retirement in 2014. Larry loved anything with a motor- cars, tractors, and four wheelers. He loved playing with his toys. He also knew how to work on everything- whether it was his home, cars, electronics or lawn mowers. He always took time to do the work himself and always was willing to help out a friend. He taught many kids in the neighborhood the necessary skills to build things, use tools and the value of a hard days work. He would never hesitate to help when asked and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it. He enjoyed playing softball and bowling in his younger days. He also loved to fish and did that regularly until he became ill. He was also quite a jokester and had a great sense of humor. Even while getting chemotherapy treatments he would be joking with the nurses and doctors. He made people laugh all the way to the very end. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 33 years, Jane Roselli Knickerbocker. Larry leaves behind his wife Lynn (Guthrie) Knickerbocker and his four children; Casey (Greg) Johnson, Ryan (Kathleen) Knickerbocker, Nancy (Andrew) Conard, and Katie (Derick) Knickerbocker. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Danny, Natalie, Andrew, Lydia and Abel. Not to mention countless other family and friends. Larry was a fighter down to the very end. His quick wit, charm and infectious smile will be remembered by all. He was the standard by which all men should be measured. A visitation will be held Friday, September 25th, 2015 from 6:00-8:30 pm with Special Remembrances at 7:30 pm. They will be at Muehlebach Funeral Home- 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, Missouri.
