Margaret 'Peggy' Dechant

Margaret Mary "Peggy" Dechant, 79, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away January 26, 2021 in Kansas City, MO. Peggy was born on October 28, 1941 to John Nolan and Margaret Mary (Meaney)Tarwater. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Norbert of 54 years; her brothers, Robert, William, Michael, and her sister, Patricia. Survivors include her children, Debbie Dechant, Todd Dechant (Margaret), Dan Dechant, Kate Preston (Scott), Tim Dechant, and her grandchildren Taylor, Jack, and Lexi Dechant, and Matt and Hannah Preston. Peggy was part of the first graduating class at St. Pius X High School, Kansas City, MO. Shortly after, she married the love of her life, Norb, August 27, 1960. Being a devoted wife and mother kept her on the go but she always found time to volunteer with church, school, and community. In most recent years she was a frequent volunteer at Harvesters Food Network in Kansas City. Peggy loved to dance, enjoyed music of all kinds, was an avid reader, and was a regular at Bridge club. Anywhere that she could enjoy the company of friends or family and have a good laugh, Peggy was very much at home. She was a devoted fan, heartily cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. She also enjoyed traveling with Norb, with some of their favorite places being Aspen, Catalina Island, and Marthas Vineyard. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Peggy will be remembered for many things including her strength of spirit, her feisty nature, and her very quick wit. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all. Memorial services will be held at a later date due to the current pandemic.
