Mary A. Sayers

August 11, 1924 — December 4, 2015

On December 4th, Mary was reunited with her beloved Ed, in heaven. Visitation will be Friday, December 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th Street, Leawood, KS., 66209, followed by Mass at 11:00. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd and Quivera.
Mary was born August 11, 1924, in Kansas City, MO., the fourth of five children of George C. Kopp and Antoinette Collins Kopp. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Grade School and St. Theresas High School.
Mary and Ed were married on January 31st, 1948, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Mary was a devoted mother to their daughter, Dianne, and later her grandchildren became the center of her life.
Mary gave freely of her time to many philanthropic organizations. She was a charter member of the Ladies of Charity of Kansas City Kansas and active many years at St. Vincents Baby Home. Mary and Ed were among the founding group for the Catholic Charities Snow Ball, which has grown after 40+ years to be one of the largest fundraisers in the Kansas City area. Mary was a member of the Saint Lukes Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for years in their gift shop. The Sisters Servants of Mary was another organization that benefited from Marys involvement.
Besides her husband, Ed, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John, George, and Jim Kopp and their wives, her sister Genevieve, and her great-grandson, Elliott Boren. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Jon Boren, and her grandchildren: Jeff and Amy Boren, Sarah and Jason Forge, and Scott and Rheanne Boren. She is also survived by the little lights of her life- her great-grandchildren: Ethan, Kathryn, Anna, Adelynn, Caroline, and Jack. Mary also leaves her sister-in-law, Rose Pavicic, and many dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Kansas City Hospice House for the loving and compassionate care they provided Mary for the final month of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kansas City Hospice House, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, or the Church of the Nativity.
