Mary Frances Garies

Mary Garies, 87, of Kansas City, MO, passed away October 13, 2015, surrounded by her family at Armour Oaks Senior Living Community. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 Tuesday, October 27 with a Rosary at 6:30 at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost, KCMO. Mary had made arrangements to donate her body to the University of Kansas Medical School. A Memorial Mass will be held October 28 at 11:30am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 75th and Main. Mary was born June 2, 1928, daughter of Leo and Marie (Kellerman) Garies. She attended Cathedral Catholic Grade School, Lillis High School, Avila University (formerly Saint Teresa College), and received a Masters Degree in Social Work at St. Louis University. She had a long career as a social worker ending at Childrens Mercy Hospital as a Psychiatric Social Worker. She was active in many clubs such as Altrusa, Siena, and bridge groups, along with many travel adventures, some out of the country. Mary enojoyed her independence but was very active with her family traveling with them as well as entertaining them. She was preceded in death by her parents; Leo and Marie Garies, brother; William Garies, and sister and brother-in-law; JoAnn and John Huesgen, and sister-in-law; Margie Garies. Mary is survived by her brother; John Jack Garies, sister-in-law; Shiloh Garies, cousins; Tom (Donna) Kellerman, Joe Kellerman, R. Mark (Amy) Kellerman, Ryan (Kirsten) Kellerman, Lisa (Raul) Ramirez, and Matthew (Erin) Kellerman, and nieces and nephews; Tina Garies, Donna (Art) Wood, Amy (Tim) Schuler, John W. Garies, Tim (Stephanie) Huesgen, Chris (Donna) Huesgen, Nancy (Bob) Singleton, Kathy (Paul) Blake, Mark (Jeannie) Garies, Marie (Joe) Cisper, Karen (Tom) Miller, Paul Garies, and LeAnne Reinhard. Memorial contributions may be given to Childrens Mercy Hospital or a charity of choice.
