Mary Katherine 'Kay' Saunders

Mary Katherine (Kay) O'Neil Saunders of Kansas City, MO died on September 4, 2015, at 91 years of age. Born on July 11, 1924 to Mildred M. Luff and John J. O'Neil in KC KS, life dealt a cruel blow with her Mother's death in 1925. Her childhood was spent mostly with her Father but she also resided with her Luff aunts and grandparents, whom she loved dearly. At age 18 she moved in with the Luffs and met the love of her life - future husband, Paul. They married in May 1945 and moved to KC MO a few years later where Paul was employed by KC Power & Light. When he retired in 1976, enjoyable years were spent at their summer home at Lake of the Ozarks. For over 50 years, Kay was a devoted wife until Paul's death in 1997. Beginning in 2004 she resided at Kingswood Senior Living Center. Kay is survived by her two sons Paul J. Saunders Jr (Rita) of Littleton, CO and Michael F. Saunders (Sally) of Leawood, KS, as well as grandchildren Andrew and Lyndsey Saunders. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8th at Muehlebach Funeral Home 6800 Troost Ave and a Mass at Christ the King Church 8510 Wornall Rd, KC MO 64114 Wednesday, Sept. 9th at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Mt Moriah Cemetery. Kay requested that any donations be made to St Jude Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN in her name.
