Mary Patricia 'Patty' Holthouse

February 11, 1926 — August 23, 2014

Mary Patricia Holthouse passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2014. Right up until her final days Pat was a lively woman with a no-nonsense, positive attitude. She found original ways to deal with every challenge life sent her and was an amazing example for all of us.

Pat was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 11, 1926, to Will Flack and Lena Brinkman Flack, the eighth of twelve children. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School and studied nursing at St. Mary University in Leavenworth. Pat worked as a surgical nurse for many years, finishing her career at St. Joseph Hospital.

In 1962, Pat married James Holthouse and they were married for 43 years. Not blessed with children of her own, she "adopted" children everywhere she went. She remembered every birthday and knew what was going on with every person. She had an amazing capacity to give focused attention to those in need of it. And she gave ridiculously strong hugs for such a tiny woman.

Patty was a big kid, always ready for fun and the first one to get down on the floor to play. She was tireless in helping others. She volunteered at many places over the years, including the Duchesne Clinic and John-Paul II School. Pat always downplayed her abilities and gifts, so she was probably utterly amazed, confounded, and humbled when she arrived in heaven and God complimented her on all of her good works.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her sisters Alice, Margaret, and Bette; her brothers Louis, Herschel, Bob, Jack, Jerry, Joe, and Tom. She is survived by her brother, Gordon Flack, 28 nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Visitation will be 9:30am Friday August 29th at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, KS where the rosary will be prayed at 10:15am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
