Matthew R. Mccullough

April 27, 1981 — April 14, 2017

Matthew R. McCullough, beloved son, brother, uncle, 35, of Kansas City, MO, passed away April 14, 2017. Visitation will be held Friday, April 21st at 9:30 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, at Saint Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., KCMO, 64131. Private interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Matt was born April 27, 1981, in Kansas City, MO to Thomas and Sharon McCullough. He attended grade school at St. Thomas More where he developed his love for basketball, the sport his dad coached him and a number of his friends in from preschool through eighth grade. The team, full of great talent and close friends, went undefeated during the last four years setting a Catholic League record. Matt went on to attend Rockhurst High School where he developed lifelong friendships while playing basketball, soccer, and track. He attended the University of Missouri where he joined the ATO fraternity. He went on to graduate from Rockhurst University where he had the honor to be handed his diploma from his dad who served on the Board of Trustees at the time.
After graduation, Matt worked for his brother, Todd, at Proshred where he dug in and helped in numerous capacities to grow Todds new business. Matt went on to coach track at Rockhurst High School where he enjoyed teaching students to be better athletes and more importantly guide them to be "men for others". Most recently, he worked in commercial real estate at MC Realty, which was a dream job for Matt that ended way too abruptly.
Matts passions in life included boating at the Lake of the Ozarks, cheering on the Royals, watching golf, collecting rare Jordan basketball shoes, and making new friends out of strangers. His colorful dress was always outdone by his even more colorful and caring personality. Matt will be remembered most especially for his never-ending kindness as well as his love of his family and friends. In particular, Matt had a very special bond with his nephews and niece, who adored and now so miss Uncle Matt. No matter what challenges Matt might have been facing in life, he made sure he left those he encountered feeling loved and important.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Mary Virginia McCullough and Ray and Lillian Enright. He is survived by his parents, Thomas McCullough and Sharon Enright McCullough, his brothers, Todd McCullough (wife Tricia Effertz McCullough) and Kevin McCullough, two nephews, Quinn and Noah, a niece Caroline, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends. Matt will be deeply missed by his family and friends but especially by his best friend, his mother Sharon. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Matthew McCullough Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rockhurst High School.
