After the birth of her two daughters, Amy and Jennifer, she decided to fulfill her dream and become a nurse. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in May 1981, and passed state boards. Monica started her career as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital. After leaving St. Luke's she started working as a visiting nurse for several agencies. Monica and Sterling enjoyed gardening, traveling, socializing at Corner Cocktail, gambling trips to the boats and Las Vegas. In May 2017, Monica suffered a stroke which left her right side mostly paralyzed, but it did not get her down. She continued to live life to the fullest. After Sterling suffered a stroke in November 2021, they moved to St. Anthony's Senior Living Community.
Monica was a GINORMOUS Chiefs fan and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. Football was life. She could out stat talk anyone who challenged her knowledge. Her passion was cooking and she loved making new dishes, trying different recipes, and making favorite birthday meals. Even after the stroke she continued to cook as often as she could. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and crocheting baby blankets for family & friends. Monica loved spending time at the lake, drinking scotch, and a good glass of wine. She enjoyed playing cards and played bridge every chance she got with her St. Anthony's friends. Most of all she loved and adored her grandchildren, they were her world. She loved them to the moon and back and spoiled them in every way she could.
Monica was devoted to her family as the best mother, a loving wife, and a doting grandma. She was thoughtful, kind, considerate, generous, caring, loyal, fun-loving, and witty. If someone was in need, she went out of her way to help them or find someone who could. The relationships she had with her family and friends were something she treasured always.
